This is such a fascinating picture of the Remer Dekle Family (includes Silas Bowen all the way to the left). It has circulated to me a few times through email, and I came across an "original" in a box at my Father's which had the description on the back.

Many of these lines I have little information on as they are moving into the 1700s. If the line originates already in the country of origin, I'm skipping over it. If they do not have a known last name, obviously, I am skipping it.

Francis Rowntree who I thought was our Ancestor embarked forVirginia from the north of Ireland with six of his seven sons the year ofa smallpox epidemic. (His youngest son Charles Rowntree came down withsmall pox just as the ship was about to leave and he and his motherstayed behind in Ireland. The father and the other brothers all embarkedfor America as they had "already paid their passage." as Joseph Rountreerelated below. Joseph's ancestor emigrated ca 1750. We are also told byWalter Rountree who emigrated to New York City in 1896, anotherdescendant of Charles that some died from "ship fever on the voyage."

I have previously had in my database, Margaret's parents as William Emanuel McElveen and Elizabeth "Betsey" Wise, but she is listed as a FOSTER CHILD. So, because this is genealogy research and not "where they lived" research, I'm not adding those as her parents.
Additionally there seems to be some confusion with another Margaret McElveen listed as the child of William and Susannah Harvey. This might be possible, but as of yet, I do not have any sources other than "online trees", and we all know how that goes.

Malcolm Brinson Lester died during the Civil War from a severerespiratory illness. Listed below are the facts pertaining to his servicerecord with the CSA and the illness that eventually killed him. M. B. Lester, Private, enlisted in the CSA on April 2, 1864 in Savannah,Ga., Chatham County. He joined Company D of the 22nd. Battalion HeavyArtillery, "Oglethorpe Siege Artillery", under the command of Lt. Col.William F. Pritchard. Malcolm was present for the Muster Roll of April1864.
It appears that shortly after his enlistment he became ill with some form of lung disease because during the 1864 July/August Muster Roll he had been transferred from the 22nd. Battalion to the Infantry Reserves. Hewas assigned to the 1st. Regiment, Georgia Infantry Reserves, Company C,Chatham County, under the command of Col. William R. Symons. This transfer occurred only 90 days after his enlistment.
Malcolm obviously became gravely ill and was transferred to the Guyton,Ga. hospital which is approximately 20 miles northwest of Savannah, Ga.in Effingham County. During the September/October 1864 Muster Roll he isshown as "Died at Guyton Hospital October 10, 1864".
The next document in the Service Record was a Confederate Army DeathRegister (Certificate #277) that stated he "died October 10, 1864 atGuyton Hospital of Congestive Failure." (Confederate Archives, Chapter10,File No. 4, page #150) At this time most references to "congestive"related deaths were due to lung diseases such as tuberculosis orpneumonia. The most likely candidate was T.B..
Malcolm's great granddaughter, Martha Sue Williams Pittman, vividly remembers her grandmother, Laura Mozelle Lester, telling the story about a slave being sent in a buckboard wagon to Guyton Hospital to pick up the body of her father and bring him home for burial. Laura was only four years old when her father died. Malcolm was laid to rest in Ash Branch Cemetery in Bryan County when he was 47 years old.
It is reasonable to assume that Malcolm's illness was so grave that he was transferred to Guyton Hospital so that he could be near his home and family during his final days. It must have been a foregone conclusion that this illness would be fatal.

Notes on Lewis Williams (#5632)...
From the research of Mrs. Carl Pittman of Tifton, Ga., daughter of John Clyde Williams of Bulloch CO., Ga.
This lineage has been proven in many books and accepted by the DAR,Society of Sons & Daughters of the Pilgrims, National Society of Colonial Dames of the 17th Century.
According to Mrs. Pittman, there are at least four men named Lewis Williams who were listed as immigrants to America in 1650. She is not100% positive, but feels strongly that the Lewis Williams of this lineage came over the Captain Richard Bond of Charles City Co.
Some researchers have said that there was an ancestor of this Lewis already in America, and that John Williams was the father or grandfather of Lewis, and that he is the one who came over from Wales. To Mrs. Pittman's knowledge, no one has ever come up with any solid proof of this. As far as any Genealogical Society is concerned, Lewis is the first to be in America.

Again, a lot of discrepancies with this family. And difficult to research because, of course, there are SO many Williams of the same names, at the same times, in the same location. How do you sift through all the information?

I'm just going to make my way through my main surnames. A fun look for me to see how much more research I need to do, and gives me a few posts to start off this blog. Charles C. Deckel, Baron, is the fathest known ancestor. George Deckel is in my database from years ago, before I learned to SOURCE. Oh my goodness, let that be the first lesson anyone ever learns - Source, Source Everything.
What I have from the Dekle Family genealogy (a site that no longer exists and I have no further contact information because, again, this was before I wrote it all down):
"In Germany in the 18th century, there was a Baron named Charles C. Deckel (Baron Von Deckel) who lived in the city of Hanover. Baron Von Deckel served during the rule of Charles VI (1711-1740). Charles VI wasa son of Leopold I who was the ruler of Germany from 1658 to 1705.Another son of Leopold was Joseph I who was the ruler from 1705 to 1711.This Baron Von Deckel was the father of Charles and John Deckel. When the sons, Charles and John, were nearing manhood, they were faced with the ordeal of going through the severely harsh military training program that all German youths of that era were put through. The survivors of the program were the survival of the fittest, so to speak. Sons Charles and John, with a cousin Friedrich, all with the name of Deckel, decided that they didn't want any part of the military training and left Hanover.They stowed away aboard a sailing ship and eventually arrived in the Harbor at Savannah, Ga. Shortly afterwards, they jumped ship and escaped to the countryside. After gaining the safety of the countryside, Charles and Friedrich decided they wanted to go north, which they did. John chose to remain in the south and settled in Effingham County near Savannah. In the 1790 census of Chester County, PA (West Chester, Pa., is the county seat), Friedrich Deckel is listed as head of family. Charles C. Deckel, Baron, is the fathest known ancestor. George Deckel is in my database from years ago, before I learned to SOURCE. Oh my goodness, let that be the first lesson anyone ever learns - Source, Source Everything.
What I have from the Dekle Family genealogy (a site that no longer exists and I have no further contact information because, again, this was before I wrote it all down):
"In Germany in the 18th century, there was a Baron named Charles C. Deckel (Baron Von Deckel) who lived in the city of Hanover. Baron Von Deckel served during the rule of Charles VI (1711-1740). Charles VI wasa son of Leopold I who was the ruler of Germany from 1658 to 1705.Another son of Leopold was Joseph I who was the ruler from 1705 to 1711.This Baron Von Deckel was the father of Charles and John Deckel. When the sons, Charles and John, were nearing manhood, they were faced with the ordeal of going through the severely harsh military training program that all German youths of that era were put through. The survivors of the program were the survival of the fittest, so to speak. Sons Charles and John, with a cousin Friedrich, all with the name of Deckel, decided that they didn't want any part of the military training and left Hanover.They stowed away aboard a sailing ship and eventually arrived in the Harbor at Savannah, Ga. Shortly afterwards, they jumped ship and escaped to the countryside. After gaining the safety of the countryside, Charles and Friedrich decided they wanted to go north, which they did. John chose to remain in the south and settled in Effingham County near Savannah. In the 1790 census of Chester County, PA (West Chester, Pa., is the county seat), Friedrich Deckel is listed as head of family. Nothing has been learned to date about what happened to Charles Deckel."
